The Sentimental Engine Slayer

Last Thursday was a big night for us Allens. Not only did we go out on a "school night," but we actually got to do something pretty cool... Cool enough to blog about!

A few years ago our friend Omar made a movie, The Sentimental Engine Slayer. It’s a really intense but equally awesome indie film. True, it's no RomCom but if you like really weird crazy psychological films and have a few hours to spend digesting and thinking about life, sexuality, and all things morose then I'd highly recommend it... If nothing else you get to see my hot Huz all sweaty and in a wife beater up on the big screen, so I of course back it. While Omar says that he made the film for his own artistic release, after its completion people in the industry really started pushing him to get it released. The movie somehow grew legs of its own and in the last few years its popularity has slowly snow-balled. The movie has already been shown at many festivals and has even intrigued David Lynch, which is a huge accomplishment in itself.

The movie was not only a labor of love for Omar but also for his friends, as the movie was mostly completed by his close friends and family… including The Huz. B was invited to go out to El Paso, TX and helped construct sets, run lights, and as mentioned above, even had a small role in the film! Again, wearing a wife beater and sweaty and scary... Hubba Hubba ladies.

So last Thursday TSES was invited to screen at The Downtown Independent Theater in LA and it was so fun to be a part of the excitement as well as an official TSES groupie. I was practically glowing for my sweet Huz. He looooves movies and for him to be able to be a part of one was an opportunity of a lifetime for him.

"Bud William Allen" up on the big screen!
I may or may not have squealed like a school girl at the sight of this.

Yes, I did indeed take grainy cell phone pictures of the screen during the movie.

I couldn't find a still of The Huz's acting skills online, but this is a picture of the scene of his big-screen debut. He is the lucky recipient of Omar's look of death.

After the film the cast got to take part of a Q&A, including my dude!

The Huz, so hot right now.

Listen, I don't care who you are- when you get to wear a VIP bracelet and are allowed to run around with "The Talent" you automatically feel pretty cool.

Are you there, Readers? It's me, Kris... Yeah, again.

Oh Blogger, you rear your tempting ugly head yet again.
That’s right folks, I’ve started yet another blog. Because you know what? I have a serious case of blog envy. I get so worked up when I read about how great everyone else’s lives are…
How cute their perfect snot-free kids look in their head to toe j.crew cuts duds…
How romantic and hot their husbands are with their thick-rimmed glasses and TOMS shoes with their date nights and love letters…
How generally fabulous everyone else’s lives are with no problems, no stress, no bills, no calories and absolutely no reality. So my answer to the ugly green jealousy monster that is Blogspot.com?
If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, right?
And as for the title of my blog, let’s be honest. People who blog, blog to brag. Sometimes they don’t even know that they’re bragging. Maybe they think that their kids will want to read up on their adventures one day when they’re old enough to appreciate it. I'm sure some people actually believe that Aunt Joe and Uncle Schmoe in Canada would really want to know what they're wearing today. Others take the passive aggressive approach- bragging about their awesome trips, incredible church groups, their cute clothes and adorable families. These stealthy braggers brag under the guise of simply keeping their friends and families informed of their daily adventures, because in their minds "every day is an adventure, and a blessing!"
Well you know what, folks? The jig is up. I’m going to blog to brag. I want to brag for a few reasons. As a young married in Orange County it’s really easy to forget just how great my life truly is. So, if I sit back and really think about how wonderful things are and actually take the time to write it down, maybe my bragging into the interwebs will bring about some self-realization of just how blessed I really am (uh-oh, I used the B word in my first post. I’m already falling down the Blogger rabbit hole). It’s easy to forget how many fun things I get to do or how remarkable my life is when many days my main focus is trying to keep my eyes open after work so I can catch up RuPaul’s Drag Race and ANTM (priorities).
I fail to see the beauty in my every day, I miss out on so many picture opportunities, I forget that life really is absolutely fabulous. If I have a blog, an outlet to brag, maybe I will snap that picture because that pie I made looks pretty darn good or gosh darn it, my hair DOES looks great today.
I want to brag because I want to remember how amazing my life is now, but also later on down the road. I’ve already missed out on logging so many memories, I don’t want to miss anymore. I don’t want to forget the butterflies that I get when The Huz texts me something sweet, I don’t want to forget how proud I am of my little house, I want to remember every good moment and wonderful thing that I have going in my life.
So in conclusion, I am about to blog… and I am about to brag.
Consider yourselves warned.
